Heather A. McLeod has over thirty years of legal experience, and has been defending employers, self-insureds, insurance carriers and third-party administrators in workers’ compensation matters since 1994 throughout the State of Florida. She has represented clients in a vast number of industry sectors. Her experience involves serving as in-house counsel for three national insurance carriers and working for notable state and national law firms. Since 2003, she has been a Supreme Court Circuit Certified Mediator and has served as a mediator for workers’ compensation cases.
She draws upon her litigation and mediator skills to handle cases from referral to closure, including legal assessment, discovery, mediation, trial, and lien recovery. She utilizes her analytical skills to implement strategies aimed to resolve the issues or claims as efficiently as possible. If resolution is not possible, she is a skilled litigator and has achieved favorable outcomes for her clients.
Heather regularly provides preventative counseling to clients to assist them in reducing claims and exposure for existing claims. She is readily available to provide lectures and webinars and is a certified instructor by the Florida Division of Workers’ Compensation.
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, from Virginia Tech in 1988. She earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Georgia in 1992. She was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1992.
Since its inception, Heather has been a member of the WCI Spirit to Serve Committee that volunteers services and puts on the gala and silent auction to benefit Give Kids the World every year at the WCI Workers’ Compensation Convention. As result of her efforts, she was presented with the Spirit to Serve Volunteer Award in 2018.
